What is the gospel?

Gospel Means
Good News!

The gospel means good news.

God Created the world and it was good.

In the garden of Eden, Adam and Eve exercised their free will and disobeyed God and ate of the fruit that they were commanded not to eat. Their rebellion against God lead to the whole creation being cursed and left man in his natural state at enmity with God and deserving of his wrath and judgement for sin.

God is Holy, righteous and just. He gave us his law and after an honest self examination, we can see that we have not kept the law, nor are we able to do so. Jesus says we must not only keep the law outwardly but inwardly as well. He says not only must you not commit adultery but if you look with lust its like committing adultery.  “You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not murder, and whoever murders will be in danger of the judgment.’ But I say to you that whoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment.

So man in his natural condition is at enmity with God and dead in trespasses and sins.

10 As it is written:

“There is none righteous, no, not one;
11 There is none who understands;
There is none who seeks after God.
12 They have all turned aside;
They have together become unprofitable;
There is none who does good, no, not one.”
13 “Their throat is an open [d]tomb;
With their tongues they have practiced deceit”;
“The poison of asps is under their lips”;
14 “Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness.”
15 “Their feet are swift to shed blood;
16 Destruction and misery are in their ways;
17 And the way of peace they have not known.”
18 “There is no fear of God before their eyes.”

19 Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. 20 Therefore by the deeds of the law no flesh will be justified in His sight, for by the law is the knowledge of sin.

So We see there is no one good and by the deeds of the law no flesh will be made right with God because the law shows us our sin.

21 But now the righteousness of God apart from the law is revealed, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, 22 even the righteousness of God, through faith in Jesus Christ, to all and on all who believe. For there is no difference; 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, 25 whom God set forth as a propitiation by His blood, through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His forbearance God had passed over the sins that were previously committed, 26 to demonstrate at the present time His righteousness, that He might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.

So we see that God is just and merciful at the same time. He is holy and just and his law must be obeyed perfect. So God took on flesh, was  born to a virgin and lived a perfect  and sinless life completely fulfilling the law. Jesus said I am the bread of life whoever comes to me will never go hungry and whoever believes in me will never go thirsty John 6:35

By Gods foreordained plan they crucified Jesus because he said he was God. More than suffering the cruel beatings, mocking, and wrath of man on the cross he suffered the full weight of the wrath of God.  He cried out my god my god why have you forsaken me. The scripture says he was pierced for our transgressions and crushed for our iniquities and the chastisement  that brought us peace was on him.

He was crucified and buried and rose from the dead proving to be an acceptable sacrifice.

 And every priest stands ministering daily and offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. 12 But this Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God, 13 from that time waiting till His enemies are made His footstool. 14 For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified. Hebrews 10:11-14

11 For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.” 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. 13 For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.” Romans 10 :11-13

Finally, we urge you to cry out to the Lord and be reconciled to God. Beg for forgiveness of sins and adoption into the family of God. Come to Him upon the merit and righteousness of Christ and him alone.
